Dale Armstrong has outlined a simple solution to that problem. Reduce
compression ratio and drop blower overdrive. Why is the NHRA testing
so many different configurations for dropping power? I know there is an
expense involved of changing an entire inventory of pistons. Is that the only
reason why this simple solution would not be considered?

Tom,
Robert Hight 3.955 Phoenix 2007
t-ped 3.980 Phoenix 2007
John Force 4.000 P-2 2006
Beckman 4.002 P-2 2006
Beckman 3.989 P-2 2006

Looks like the the cars are not quicker today than 4 years ago, but they are heavier... and safer.

There are many simple changes available to reduce Nitro power ,
however the teams don't want major changes that will cause them to lose the millions of dollars in data accumulation from running the cars during the past ten years.
The solutions are simple , but having the balls to implement them is another story... ;)

As has been said on here many times the solution is simple. Remove a mag and limit the blowers to a 1071 or whatever. Everything else will sort itself out. Easy to police but screws their data history for one year. No guts no glory!

Good point. That's much more costly than replacing an inventory of pistons.

I missed the thread on this. Oopsie on my part...

Bottom line there are only but a couple of crewchiefs that have the intelligence to make a new combo work. Most crewchiefs are only working on tuneups that have been passed along to them. Hence that is why you always see the same group winning and the same group following. If NHRA required a new set of parameters for top fuel, invest in blocks, cranks, heads and track sweep. They are going to be in high demand.

While I absolutely agree with everything you said in your post, the only thing worse than doing something is doing nothing in regards to the tuneup.

ONE mag,ONE pump T/F And F/C.Take off barn doors off rear funny cars and cut 25%of wings from front and back of top fuel cars!!GO BACK TO 1320 RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!To hell with all the blackbook tune-up stuff!!!

All the bullsh!t about the costs hat will be incurred to make a change has gotten old. The costs have skyrocketed out of control a long time ago, but it's pointless to place blame on that because there's enough to go around. That includes some of the racers/owners themselves because the same ones that will ***** the most about all the lost inventory and data are likely some of the same ones that begun or are still are spending megabucks to start with.

The bottom line is that getting a handle on it is waaaaaaaaay overdue. Bite the bullet, make the necessary changes in the name of safety and cost control and move on down the road. The sport will be better for it in the long run.

When they allowed the setback blower, many crewchiefs were lost for a while.
They figured it out, just like they would with a new setup.

I agree about the pump and mag deal, but also outlaw the dump trucks on the funnycars. That would slow them down a bunch.

Single mag, pump and a smaller blower? Sounds like a motor for the Heritage series. NOT Top Fuel.
