Somewhere about 1969 or 70...I heard a parody of the "SUNDAY" type of commercial that was released on a 45 rpm record. Heard it while making a call on a radio station in New Orleans. I would love to find a copy of that record today....any ideas greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure it's not the same one, but I remember a very very 'blue' drag racing commercial parody tape that Brett Kepner made some years back.

Jan Gabriel is credited with the original "Sunday", here's some of it on YouTube":

YouTube - Jan Gabriel Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Smoking US 30 Dragstrip
YouTube - Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! At the smokin' US 30 Dragstrip!

Chris...thanks for reminding me...I did preface my remarks about feeble memory. And I had the pleasure of knowing Jan personally many years ago. Somewhere tho the Gold Agency keeps coming back, along with the name, Ira Leachey(Sp?). Possibly with the Coca Cola Cavalcade of Funny Cars??????????

Now that's been some time ago.

I also had the privilege of hearing Bret's parody...funny indeed.

The one I referred to as having heard in N.O. was a professionally produced and released 45 rpm record. It had some great lines of copy in it...most creative.

Thanks again for setting me back on the correct path about Jan. I know he was going through some bad health problems...but never heard the outcome. Anybody know for sure?

NFL Football is my Hobby. Drag racing is my job.

You help me to figure out who is to blame.

I was watching the NFL on Thursday.

Joe Buck is the announcer and he makes mention that quarterback Byron Leftwich keep calling out Sunday.

"He keeps yelling, Sunday ... Sunday ... Sunday ... like he's advertising a TRACTOR PULL or something," he said.

That is bad.

Maybe this is just one instance from someone uneducated toward motorsports, but is it really?

While I agree there is a massive amount of improvement needed, I'm not sure this example means very much.

The Bucks are a local family. Joe was sent to one of the most exclusive schools in the St. Louis area, where the kids of the other honchos of St. Louis business also attended.

I've never met the man, but everyone I know who has remarks that considering everything Joe is a down-to-earth guy. But in his privileged upbringing I don't think there was any way he was exposed to drag racing.

Why did he think of Monster Trucks? Simple. They appear in the same venues as his day job and I'm sure he's seen a poster or two, an ad spot, etc. while working.

Had there ever been a drag racing show at Busch Stadium, I'd bet his association would have been different.

That wasn't Dale Jarrett it was Marty Reed. Nice to see that he still pays at least some attention to drag racing.

I've often heard drag racing comments on NASCAR broadcasts. Mostly from Darrell Waltrip and Marty. I bet Marty misses the NHRA and probably still communicates with some in the sport. I would! I can't remember how many seasons ago, but I remember Force and Capps being on separate Trackside shows before races. DW really sounded like he knew what he was talking about when he asked them questions.

And I can't tell you how many times Steve Byrnes has mentioned Capps to Michael Waltrip on This Week in NASCAR.

John & Ashley Force were on Nascar Now(?) recently. They were interviewed by Ricky Craven. It was interesting. He complimented the sport of drag racing and kept asking John if he ever thought about running in circles............... :)

Mac, I don't know, but he has a blog (you can find it here). But the last entries look like they're from 2007, a plea for a new kidney... :(

Love the radio spot! Old school production, tape loop re-verb (pot up that cart deck Little will ya?) Two guys, 1 Mic, 1 take, lay it all out on a four track, dub it to reel, Next! I got into Radio at the tail end of tape and razor blade production lots of pressure and fun. Having grown up in So Cal, you would hear Evans and "Larry the Mouth" Huffman on about every other commercial. Good times........
