'Dougzilla' ready to roar in Reading

READING, PA, pre-race: The 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season may not be turning out the way Doug Herbert had envisioned, but the 8-time Top Fuel national event winner certainly hasn't thrown in the towel. The driver of the powerful Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster will be looking to break back into the Top 10 with a victory at this weekend's Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at scenic Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania .

Herbert has been running consistently but is still seeking to find more performance after a dramatic mid-season crew chief change seemingly sabotaged his season. Longtime friend, crew chief and tuner Jim Brissette, and assistant John Smith stepped in to help Herbert out in Seattle and have been steadily improving at each race after starting basically from scratch.

"It's been frustrating but I don't dwell on the negative aspect of the situation," said Herbert. "The entire Snap-on Tools team works very hard and we're committed to continue to do all we can to be successful. We haven't performed to our full potential this season, but we're heading in the right direction with our set up. There are still five races and a lot of racing left to go and we plan to make our presence felt, inflict some damage on our competition and finish the year strong."

Herbert enters the race after qualifying 11th for the quickest Top Fuel field in history at the NHRA U.S. Nationals held in Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend. The Snap-on dragster made four strong runs with a 4.54, 4.56, 4.60 and a 4.62. As Smith and Brissette gather valuable data you can look for 'Dougzilla' to continue improve his performance.
