Dixon Kicks Off Qualifying With Sixth Quickest Pass of the Day

Indianapolis, Friday: Defending U.S. Nationals winner Larry Dixon began his quest to repeat as the winner of NHRA drag racing’s marquee race on Friday at O’Reilly Raceway Park as the 38-time NHRA winner drove his Miller Lite dragster to a pass of 4.546-seconds.

Dixon, a three-time Mac Tools U.S. Nationals winner (1995, 2001, ’05), used a tune-up from co-crew chiefs Don Bender and Todd Smith to power the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail to a performance of 4.546 seconds at 328.22 mph to finish sixth in the 16-car order with four qualifying attempts remaining. Dixon qualified sixth at the U.S. Nationals last year with a 4.510-second E.T.

“We ran a 4.57 to finish Indy testing last Wednesday and our goal coming in here was to improve upon that tonight, and we did that,” Dixon said. “We picked up by a few hundredths (of-a-second) and it’s a good start for our team.”
