Just took a glance at the qualifying order for this race. The bump spot for the 8 car field is 5.265! Conditions must be amazing.

Wish Shawn Cowie and Joey Severance would have been there. Would love to see what those two could run.

Went to Drag race Central & followed the race. Wow... they were flyin'! DJ Cox had low ET in TA/FC at 5.38, but lost final to Paul Gill (broke). Justin Ashley won T/AD in the fueler, had best time of the meet at 5.141 - 280.66. "Slowed" to 5.238 277 to win. Wish I could have been there.

That is crazy, just last week at the Las Vegas Regional, it set the all time lowest bump for an 8 car field at 5.36 ... and just one week later they lowered it by a whole tenth in Richmond. Crazy I tells ya. By the way, the old 8 car record bump spot before Vegas last week stood for 10 whole years, then to lower it by .11 in 2 weeks is just WOW.

Now I wanna see what will happen at the National meet. Am sad Englishtown is gone, but maybe that will give this track new life.

16 cars at a divisional? That's awesome!
16 dragsters, 8 funny cars ... that's bigger than some National events.

Amazing show. Hitters from all over the country in both classes. Little amazing tidbits all over the place ...
  • 8 TAD qualifiers separated by a tenth. You never see that at a Divisional race
  • 11 TAD's under 5.30 in qualifying. 3 of which went home very disappointed with a 5.20's timeslip that = DNQ. Definitely not something you see at a Divisional race
  • TJ Coughlin (McPhillips car) has a losing timeslip from round 1 at 5.205, great runs just weren't good enough in some cases. WOW !!
  • Friday qualifying was so impressive, NHRA did a report during the Friday night qualifying show from Houston. "EPIC" as Lewis Bloom put it.
  • Annie Whiteley was clearly the class of the TAFC field all weekend (5.40's machine) UNTIL ... she met up with DJ Cox and his 5.38
  • Really great crowd on Saturday, they were very loudly cheering after every run. New owner has to be happy and I am sure anticipating his first National Event as a track owner.
  • After teams made their run, many returned to the starting line to watch the remainder of the session. Phones were out constantly recording. It looked like Woodstock or a National event with all the people up in the starting line viewing area just waiting to see what might happen next.
National event should be fun. It will not likely have the great weather the Division race had. It was in the 60's all weekend and Crew Chiefs were saying they have never seen the water grain numbers as low as they were in VA (less than 20) for most of the event. It was just one of those rare events where all the factors come together to produce an historic event. Quality cars, amazing track surface, and weather conditions.

Lots of fun to watch !!! It will be one of those events that people will refer to for some time ... "remember that year in Virginia?"

DJ Cox drives for Tony Bartone, I think. That is a strong car! I think that when conditions are really good, you will see a lot more 5.30's in TA/FC and maybe even a 5.10 in T/AD. YEAH!

No sir ... DJ drives his family's TAFC. That's what makes the run more impressive. It is an old Bartone car but Sean Bellemeur drives for Bartone these days

They would have to add another round 32 car field. Just like Top Dragster and Top Sportsman.

Gotta disagree here. The Top classes are popular because they are extremely fast, but you don’t have to keep chasing the next hundredth, which costs a lot of money. Not that purse increases shouldn’t happen, but they could never be big enough to overcome how expensive headsup classes can get. Having said that, a bump in purses/round money would surely get racers to maybe add events to their schedule, and maybe travel a bit farther. Of course, JMO.
