<P>BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Second year NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Alexis De Joria and the Tequila Patrón/Jack O’Bannon Racing team qualified in the top half of a tough field during this past weekend’s Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Auto Club Famoso Dragway in Bakersfield, Calif. Despite losing on a holeshot, De Joria vows to use the event as motivation to improve her reaction times.

De Joria, 30, of Venice, Calif., qualified the Jack O’Bannon Racing Dodge Charger fourth in the field with a 5.769 at 248.55 mph. In round one, she took on former three-time Division 7 Champ Doug Gordon, outrunning him with a 5.808 at 248.55 mph, but lost on a holeshot to Gordon’s 5.950 at 251.46 mph.

“The car ran awesome,” said De Joria. “I’m just very mad at myself because I could have won that round if I had a regular light. I feel horrible that I cut that light and lost the race. The car has never run so good. It was really consistent. We made two passes testing on Thursday and made it down when a lot of cars were struggling. The only pass it didn’t go down the track was in qualifying when I made a mistake on the line.

“We’re making good progress this year,” De Joria continued. “Our last two division races we’ve made it into some really tough fields. Even with the crew change everything worked out very well this weekend. Everyone is working together.”

De Joria won’t have to wait long to redeem herself as the Tequila Patrón/Jack O’Bannon Racing team will head east to Dallas for this weekend’s O’Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals the Texas Motorplex.
