DAVID POWERS MOTORSPORTS DRIVERS SHINE AT NATIONAL TIME TRIALS ON MONDAY

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Jan. 29, 2008) – Rod Fuller and the David Powers-owned Caterpillar Top Fuel team moved to the top of the order as the CAT dragster posted the quickest time of the Nationals Time Trials on Monday afternoon at Firebird International Raceway. The six-time NHRA Top Fuel winner blistered the quarter mile in 4.468 seconds at 331.36 mph to lead the Top Fuel category.

The Las Vegas racer posted two notable laps on Monday in his Rob Flynn-tuned rail. Last season’s second place finisher opened the day with a solid 4.538, 332.43 effort. It was the fastest pass of Fuller’s career. The University of Arkansas grad capped the day by clocking the 4.468, 331.36 blast in the Caterpillar dragster. Fuller’s car was traveling more than 281 mph at half track (660-feet). He is the two-time defending event champion of the CSK Nationals at F.I.R.

“It was a good day for both of our teams,” Fuller said. “We made two great runs. The first pass we ran 4.53 and nobody was getting down the track. I think Rob (Flynn) found something with the tune-up. This is why we test. That 4.46 run was awesome. We know we have a fast race car and anytime you can outrun (Tony) Schumacher, that’s impressive. And, Antron (Brown) made his first full pull going almost 328 (mph).”

Two days after making the necessary runs to earn his crossover Top Fuel license, 16-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle winner Antron Brown raced his Matco Tools dragster to its quickest pass of testing. The Top Fuel rookie used Lee Beard horsepower to race the Matco-backed rail to a run of 4.548 seconds at 327.66 mph. Brown will make the first test laps in his new 2008 Brad Hadman race car on Tuesday at Firebird.

“We were a little backed up on the tune-up on that run with at 4.54, 327,” Beard said. “We’re switching race cars to the chassis with the ’08 specs today. It’s the same as Hot Rod’s (Fuller) car that he ran to that brilliant 4.46 at 331. We’re going to wick her up today and hopefully we’ll have two 4.40 race cars.”

Headquartered in Houston with race operations located in Brownsburg, Ind., David Powers Motorsports fields the two-car Top Fuel operation of drivers Rod Fuller and Antron Brown. DPM proudly represents racing partners Matco Tools, Caterpillar, Valvoline, Toyota, Forward Sports Marketing, Goodyear, FRAM, Autolite, Ringer’s Gloves, and Go Fast Sports.
