<P> (8/26/08)Tulsa, OK- Pro Mod driver Tommy D'Aprile or "Tommy D" came to Tulsa looking for two things, points and redemption. After his worst event of the season at the previous Northern Nationals D'Aprile knew he needed a good showing in Tulsa to remain in the hunt for the 2008 IHRA Pro Mod title.
When qualifying ended D'Aprile held on to the fifth position after posting a best elapsed time of 6.114 seconds. In Round one D'Aprile was paired with the number 11 qualifier, Spring Texas' Thomas Patterson. Patterson at the wheel of his infamous "Head Hunter" '70 Charger posted a best of 6.273 during qualifying. D'Aprile won this race on a hole shot posting a slower 6.234 elapsed time to Patterson's quicker 6.208. D'Aprile was able to get the win light because of his quicker .044 reaction time to Patterson's slower .175 RT. In round two Tommy D. defeated nitrous standout Jim Halsey when Halsey left the starting line early disqualifying himself. In the semi's D'Aprile squared off with points leader Kenny Lang. The Tulsa surface proved to be too much for D'Aprile's '62 Bel Air as it went into tire shake at the hit of the throttle, handing the win to Lang.
"I can't say I don't wish we could've gone further but we were able to gain some well needed points this weekend and keep our hopes alive," said D'Aprile."
Next up for Tommy D and the rest of the Mel Bush Motorsports Team will be the Amalie Oil North American Nationals in Epping, NH from Sept. 5th-7th.
