(6-24-2011) NORWALK, Ohio – With three final round appearances under his belt in Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series competition so far this season, including an impressive victory at the NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, Danny Rowe and his Sterling Bridge Pro Mod team are making their case for the 2011 world championship. High on Rowe’s priority list for this weekend’s 5th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, is a third-straight trip to the final round, and with any luck another “Wally” for his trophy case.
As the final stop on a three-race swing in the month of June for the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series schedule, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk will serve as the send-off point for the teams as they enter a two-month layoff prior to the Mac Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend.
“We’re making big time progress and a successful outing here in Norwalk could make all the difference in the world,” says Rowe, who is currently just 48 points behind Khalid Balooshi for the number-one spot. “I’m very happy with the way things have gone so far. We’ve been two three final rounds this season – two in a row – and won a race. It’s a testament to this team; that’s what has made it possible.
“The pressure is on, though. There’s no way around it. A win in Norwalk would be huge for us – huge for this team and huge for our sponsors. There is definitely something to be said for getting on a roll, and I think we’ve gotten into a good rhythm by making lots of runs – good runs – under race day conditions. We want to go out with a bang and go into this little bit of a layoff with the points lead.”
Leaving Norwalk with the points lead isn’t out of the question, either. It will require outlasting inarguably the best group of Pro Mod drivers and cars in the world, though.
“Every year it’s a little bit more intense than the last,” says Rowe. “I’m comfortable saying that every year since we started running the NHRA Pro Mod Series full-time that we’ve seen the caliber of the cars and the level of competition increase almost exponentially. So long as Jimmy Rector [crew chief] and this Sterling Bridge team keep giving me a great race car like they have all year, I’m 100-percent confident that we can win every time we go to the starting line. You have to be confident in your program, and we’ve worked hard to show that we have a championship-caliber deal here.
“We want to make a move in Norwalk,” says Rowe, “and with a little sunshine and a little luck, I like our chances.”
The Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will take to the quarter-mile on Friday, June 24th, with two qualifying sessions scheduled, and a third and final session on Saturday, June 25th. First round of eliminations will be held Saturday afternoon, with the final three rounds held on Sunday, June 26th, starting at 11:00 AM.
