Here's a couple pictures of my kids from our smoking hot (was Texas hot here today) nation's capitol. Took a ton of pictures but I'll just post a couple here for now and try to do more later.

Cool Mark!

My boyfriend is coming home from overseas and we are going to make a road trip to D.C. I'm all for ideas on what we should see!

Did you get to do a white house tour?

The Wall
it had the most profound emotional effect on me of any memorial, monument or tombstone I have ever seen im my lifetime.. But probably because it was memorial day. No I am not a vet.

The Wall is definately on our list, so is the Holocaust Museum. We figure we'll be there 5 days.

We didn't go on a White House tour. We were short on time only spending one day in DC.

We did make it to the Vietnam Vets Memorial and it is indeed a powerful tribute to our fallen soldiers. When we walked by it, it is built kinda into the ground and because of that, it was really hot. There was no air movement, no breeze, so with the mid 90's temps and the humidity, we didn't stay for long. Still worth looking at.

The one thing I recommend for anyone coming to DC though is to plan on taking the Metro when possible. Parking is hard to find and the subway system here is wonderful. We bought a one day pass (costs $7.80) and you can ride unlimited all day. Best way to get around.

Jenn, I wish we had had time to see the Holocaust Museum. I have a cousin who lives here and she took my two sisters there when they visited here in May and they all spoke very highly of it.

I was laid over just outside of DC for Memorial Day a little over 20 years ago. I know exactly what you saw. The names are in chronological order so, when someone finds the name of a buddy, they often find several that died on the same day.

If you could walk the length of that wall with fathers, mothers, widows, siblings, brothers, sisters, friends, other relatives, etc, and not cry, you have no heart, IMO. I remember late at night there were guys drinking, crying, and screaming.

BTW Mark, I got sidetracked with that wall thing. I meant to say you've got beautiful kids. Ages 11, 12, 13, and 14. LOL. Your bills will drop pretty progressively in a few years, huh?

Thanks Ron. You got that right! We also have an 18 year old who has one foot out the door now, going off to college in a month.

You're so right about the Vietnam vets wall. Very powerful. It was so dang hot when we we're there...mid 90's with dewpoints in the mid 70's. Heat index had to be 105, maybe even 110.

We're in New York now. Seeing the Twins play the Yankees tonight. Tomorrow is my son Zach's birthday. He turns 15. We're going to the Baseball Halll of Fame in Cooperstown tomorrow.

Check out the United States National Arboretum, pretty cool too. I got a couple erie pics at the korean war memorial just after dark....
