Coughlin's championship charge to be sponsored by JEGS.com

CHARLOTTE (May 24) JEGS.com will assume primary sponsorship of the Cagnazzi Racing Chevrolet Cobalt entry driven by three-time NHRA champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. The internet home of mail-order parts giant JEGS High Performance Parts, JEGS.com has been a major associate on the 47-time national event winner's car since he joined Cagnazzi Racing last September. It now takes over the top position on the racecar and all related team components.

Coughlin, one of four Coughlin brothers who took over the Delaware, Ohio-based company in 1988 from family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr., won POWERade Pro Stock championships in 2000 and 2002. He also won the Super Gas world title in 1992. This season, Coughlin and his JEGS.com teammates are third in the points, just 13 points out of the second place spot held by Connolly.

“We are extremely excited to take our relationship on and off the track with JEGS to the next level," team owner Victor Cagnazzi said. "We are looking forward to great things on the horizon for this team."

Coughlin was sponsored by his family business before, including during all three of his championship campaigns. He's also raced for Don Schumacher in the past.

"The timing of this is perfect for JEGS and for the race team," Coughlin said. "I know the 350 associates we have at our Ohio headquarters will be thrilled by this announcement. Victor has put together a top-quality organization here, as evidenced by me and Dave's performance this year, and to gain top billing on the car is exciting.

"I said from the beginning I wouldn't race without a legitimate shot at the championship and I truly believe we have that here at Victor Cagnazzi Racing. From the guys building the chassis we use, to the talented folks in the engine department, on through to the excellent crew we have at the races, we want for nothing. And the business side of this organization is just as impressive. This was an easy call for us."

The 1998 NHRA Rookie of the Year, Coughlin is the only driver in NHRA history to win in four categories in one season -- Pro Stock, Super Stock, Competition Eliminator, and Super Gas -- a feat he accomplished in 1997.
