Las Vegas - Jeg Coughlin and Dave Connolly officially became the No. 1 and 2 Pro Stock qualifiers Saturday, putting the Slammers Ultimate Milk teammates on opposite sides of the ladder and on a collision course they hope concludes with them meeting for the race victory Sunday afternoon.
Neither driver was able to improve his 6.733-second time from Friday as warmer weather conditions slowed the cars. Connolly’s Torco Racing Fuels/Slammers Ultimate Milk Chevy Cobalt was a few thousandths quicker than Coughlin’s Slammers Ultimate Milk Cobalt on both runs – 6.753 seconds to 6.757 and 6.670 to 6.763.
Connolly said both cars ran well “in all four qualifying sessions and finishing one-two is definitely a great way to go into Sunday. It should be exciting. If we can make four decent runs in both cars (in eliminations) we should be able to make the whole team pretty happy.”
Connolly was runner-up at this race last year and won it in 2005. Coughlin has spring-race wins here in 2000 and 2001 and the fall event in 2002, so they both know the way to winner’s circle.
