Cory Mac Comes Through on Final Qualifying Run
FRAM/Torco Racing Fuels Dragster Earns Ninth Spot in Phoenix

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Cory McClenathan guided the FRAM/Torco Racing Fuels Top Fuel dragster to a weekend-best run of 4.516 seconds at 327.51 mph Saturday to solidify the No. 9 starting berth for Sunday's Checkers Schuck's Kragen Nationals at Firebird Raceway and ending his drama-filled two-days of qualifying on an upbeat note.

"The good news is that we got in the show," said a relieved McClenathan, "but we don't get lane choice and we have to race our landlord in the first round."

Larry Dixon, who was eighth-quickest (4.511 at 323.219 mph), owns the building that houses the Carrier Boyz/Scott Griffin Racing Top Fuel team in Brownsburg, Ind.

An unusual mechanical problem prevented Cory Mac from getting down the track under power on Friday The bugs were fixed Saturday and it took one run for crew chief Wes Cerny to dial it in. "I knew we had what it takes to get qualified," added McClenathan. "We had some strange things going on, but that last run was good. We did spin the tires a little at halftrack and hurt the motor a little bit.

"Our crew worked hard and I'm happy for them and I'm happy for our sponsors. We will be the first pair down the track Sunday, but we will be ready for it."
