Consistency is Stivers No. 1 Goal in Richmond

DINWIDDIE, Va. (October 4, 2007) - Consistency in qualifying is the primary focus of Pro Mod driver Rick Stivers as he prepares for battle in the AMS Pro Mod Challenge event at the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals in Richmond, Va. The Lexington, Ky. resident is vying for a position in the ProCare Rx Pro Mod Clash and currently sitting 130 points outside the field, hoping to make the cut after qualifying is over this weekend.

Points for the ProCare Rx Clash are earned two ways: qualifying order and consistency, with the top qualifier earning 160 points, No. 2 - 150, on down to ten. The variance between a driver's best and worst qualifying runs determines consistency, and a driver can earn 160 points for being the most consistent, again, incrementally down to ten. Conceivably, a driver can earn 320 points in a weekend.

"I know I have to be on my game if I'm going to make it, and I guarantee I've never taken qualifying so seriously as I am this weekend. I'd love nothing more to take away the $25,000 cash by winning in Vegas, but I've got to qualify first, and that means every pass counts," Stivers said.

"I've had several long conversations with Chuck [Ford, Stivers' crew chief], and he has assured me that we definitely have the car ready to go this weekend.

"At the last race, we ran a 6.08 in qualifying, and that was with the blower belt coming off at 1000 feet. We were on a 6.01 run, easy, if not better. It's just been one of those years when we haven't gotten any breaks, but, I'm believing that all the bad luck is used up, and now we're really going to see some fireworks.

"There's a lot of great cars signed up to race here this weekend, but ole' Hernandez and the rest of them are going to have their hands full with us, because Chuckie and my guys are coming to get 'em. The goal is to go out this weekend and run even, quick runs in qualifying, and then give them everything we've got in eliminations. We've got everything in place to do it, and I really want to make that field and play for the money in Vegas," Stivers said.

Qualifying rounds are scheduled for 3 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5 and at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. Eliminations will begin Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., and conclude Sunday, Oct. 7.
