The funny part is the hotter the carbon fiber brakes and rotors get, the better they grip.
 
My wife has to ride the brakes during the burnout in her TD so they will stop well enough to let her stage the car. When we run at night, it's amazing how many people come up to me and say our brakes must be messed up because they are glowing during the burn out. Clearly they don't have to glow red to do the job of staging, but under-doing means you have no idea where the car will stop while stage while overdoing it just gives me a little more reason to make sure the brake fluid gets regularly flushed!
 
I never knew that about carbon fiber brakes. I knew they stopped the car quicker, but didn't know you had to heat them up on the burnout. Wow.....
 
I would see glowing brakes all of the time when I was in the habit of watching Formula 1 many years ago, say late eighties/early nineties. I *think* they had carbon fiber brakes back then. I am willing to bet @Chris Cook would know the answer to that.
