Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia made wholesale changes to Kenny Koretsky's Nitro Fish Wear Dodge Stratus Saturday with the hope Mike Thomas would be more competitive in their Mopar Mile-High Nationals opening round race against Jason Line Sunday.
But it did not work. After Thomas left the starting line first, Line pulled away, winning in 7.094 seconds at 194.46 mph to Thomas' 7.210 at 192.52.
"We weren't running good enough to leave the car set up the way it was," Guarnaccia said of the decision to switch things around. "We were racing the number one qualifier, so I tried something off beat. When you don't get the car moving down low in this altitude, the whole run suffers. When I say we made changes, we changed almost everything. Unfortunately, we don't
really know how much worked, or didn't work, because of the altitude."
"We did as well as we could with what we had," said Thomas, who started from 16th position.
The team returns to sea level racing conditions next weekend in the Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals at Seattle.
