Carpenter’s new ’55 Chevy makes an impressive debut

(5-27-2008) CHARLOTTE, NC – Charles Carpenter’s new Terry Murphy-built ’55 Chevy made an impressive debut at the Quick 8 Races Association race at Farmington Dragway over Memorial Day weekend.

After months of work and tweaking on the one-of-a-kind ride, the first time Carpenter dropped the clutch on the Shoebox it went .990 to the sixty-foot marker, following that up with a 2.68 half-track E.T. and a 4.05 at 181 MPH at the lights in Friday night testing.

“That really came out of nowhere,” Carpenter admitted. “We had lots of confidence that we had a good car, but that impressed everyone, especially me. To roll off the trailer and run that well on the very first run is quite a testament to the type of car Terry Murphy builds, as well as the chassis setup abilities of Paul Albino from Total Induction Tuning Solutions.”

A hot track greeted the competitors Saturday, and Carpenter and crew were unable to duplicate the performance they showed the night before.

“The track got really hot, and was loose for us from about half-track on,” said Carpenter. “We really struggled with it since we had no data as to what the car wants in those conditions. We’ll get it figured out with more runs on the car. After all, we only have five or six hits and two full runs on it at this point.”

The legendary Pro Mod pioneer made one final test run once the blazing Carolina sun had set, and recorded short times of .990 and 2.68 again before the car began moving around on top end, forcing him to lift and coast to a 4.09.

Carpenter plans to appear at a few more local quick-8 races and test sessions before making his national event debut at the ADRL Independence Drags in Radford, VA.

Carpenter is actively seeking primary sponsorship for 2008. For more information about Charles Carpenter Racing and the World’s Fastest ’55 Chevy, or for a copy of the team’s 2008 Marketing Partnership Guide, visit Charles Carpenter Racing.
