After beating Wilkerson he said that if he couldn't beat Wilkerson on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Pomona he didn't deserve the championship. I guess he doesn't think Wilk is any competition to him.......?????

I had the feeling Capps was stunned that he won the championship the way he did. Hey Ron you WON brother! That's the important thing.

I thought it was an odd statement, but he seemed to be in a bit of a fog as he had kind of just won the championship but not really and kind of got lost in his words. Past interviews show he has no issues with Wilk

Yeah, I kind of took it as, "If I can't beat _________ [fill in the blank] on Sunday afternoon, I don't deserve the championship." Just happened Wilk was the last guy he raced.
Congratulations Ron! What a dream season! Becoming a team owner; conquering all the new challenges that come with that; continuing to run well; and ultimately winning the championship! Great job!

I’m sure they are very good with each other. Ron said previously this year that he was offered to drive for Tim if the pieces didn’t fall into place for his own team. They have s as really good Napa connection.

I'm pretty sure you could have changed his reference to racing Wilk to any other funny car driver in the other lane.....if you don't win that matchup, it doesn't matter, you'll lose the championship. Capps is and has always been very respectful of every other competitor out there and I'm positive his respect for Tim is very, very high.

I am so happy for Ron Capps. He has been so nice to me over the many many years I've been a fan. He also did a favor for me in respect to one of my concert photo's from 1980, that I can never repay him for. Just a nice and genuine dude. Myself and my family were all ecstatic that he won the Championship again. Great guy, great team.

A little odd but agreed, he could have been talking about anybody. TW just happened to be the one in line. Erica popped off a little about Greg after her final round defeat but it wasn't out of disrespect, either. She was simply mad at herself for getting holeshotted after an .061 light. I doubt there's any animosity remaining between those two after all these years.

Latest from Gazoo, nuthin' about Capps. Maybe they haven't had time to do the web site.

I don't know everything Ron's ever said in his history as a driver, but I don't recall him talking negatively about anyone.

I took it as a compliment as in "you have to beat the best to be the best."
