[coverattach=1]POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2008) - Ron Capps placed the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car solidly into No. 6 in qualifying for the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.
He recorded his quickest elapsed time of 4.118 seconds at 302.08 mph in the second round of qualifying on Friday, and his three other attempts included a 4.150/293.41 (No. 7) on Thursday, and 4.364/214.94 (No. 4) and 4.145/301.40 today.
"Great weekend," said Capps, who will face Bob Tasca III in the opening round of eliminations of the final event of the 2008 season. "In the last session, when it started cooling down a little bit, we felt like we could run to the top of the pack, but we also wanted to try a couple of things that we needed to try. We were solidly in the field, and we knew we had lane choice for tomorrow. That's a great position to be in to try something.
"It only ran a .14, but we learned a lot for tomorrow as far as race day goes. Great call by Ed (McCulloch, crew chief) and Ronnie (Thompson, assistant crew chief) and all the NAPA guys. You don't want to end this season on a non-winning note, and I feel good that we've got a great car for tomorrow."
