ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 12, 2010) - Racing the NAPA Batteries Dodge Charger Funny Car, Ron Capps qualified No. 5 for the 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, posting his quickest lap of 4.119 seconds at 300.40 mph in the third qualifying round today.
His other attempts resulted in a 4.155-second run for No. 4, a 9.832/72.86
(No. 7), and a 7.258/87.66 in the fourth session under a hot sun.
"It was a great day," said Capps. "We had conditions change a lot in the
last session. We had probably the most sun we've seen during a qualifying
run this weekend. We pushed a little bit too hard.
"Ace (crew chief Ed McCulloch) did a great job on the first run today of
putting the .11 on the scoreboard and moving us up into the fifth position
(second quickest of that round). Unfortunately, we're going to run our DSR
teammate Jack Beckman in the opening round, which is not a good thing."
