TOPEKA, Kan. - In their quest to bring home both the NHRA National and Divisional titles, defending Top Alcohol Dragster National Champion car owner Tom Conway with driver Lee Callaway will start an aggressive road trip during this weekend's Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. Callaway enters the event third in Division 4 standings and hopes to make up ground on points leader Spencer Massey.
The event starts a swing for the team that will put the Skull Shine backed team on the road for the next eight out of nine weekends. Callaway, of Baytown, Texas, looks forward to the swing nonetheless.
"It's going to be tough on all of us no doubt," said Callaway. "But if you can get hot on one of those swings it can really pay off. When I won the Division 4 Championship with my blown car in '02, we won three races in five weeks. Hopefully we can start a run like that this weekend in Topeka. It's the same track Tom started his championship run last year."
Callaway also looks forward to racing in the cooler nighttime conditions in Topeka.
"It's no secret these A/Fuel cars run better when it's cooler," stated Callaway. "For whatever reason, Topeka just seems to be a good A/Fuel track. Some of the quickest runs in history were ran here. Hopefully we can put this Skull Shine A/Fueler in the winner's circle this weekend."
