The Resurrection of the Cotton Candy Corvette
“Nostalgia”…. that’s a word that describes Bunny & The Boys’ inspiring
career in more ways than a 1979 Corvette Funny Car ever will. In spite
of 45 years of racing through life’s obstacles with a constant mixture
of triumph and tragedy, at an age when most drivers have already
retired their helmet to the shelf, Bunny is embarking on yet another
mission very close to her heart.
Being a “Survivor” herself, Bunny has launched a project called
“Burnout Breast Cancer”. She is determined to promote awareness on how
important early detection can be in saving lives.
Nearing completion is Bunny’s 1979 pink “Cotton Candy” nostalgia
Corvette that will represent her breast cancer campaign, using the
familiar pink ribbon and the Bunny logo that is recognized by fans of
all ages.
Always operating on a very modest budget, Bunny & The Boys have spread
the word, asking for help in supporting this important mission.
Stepping up to the plate is “THE SHOP”, located in Beltsville,
Maryland. The overall design, paint, and lettering will be applied by
the skillful and talented hand of Chuck Buckler, formerly of Banshie
Studios. Partner Steve Wisooker, formerly of House of Powder, has
promised his first “Pink” powder coating job for the Corvette. The fact
that everything is being done by “THE SHOP”, under the same roof, is
considered by Bunny to be a true blessing.
Jim Gloyd of Line-X in Frederick, Maryland is a major supporter of the
campaign, utilizing the Corvette for displays and sponsoring benefit
events year round. Bruce Mullins Fabrication in Fredericksburg,
Virginia tackled the job of mounting and shaping the sheet metal to fit
the chassis. Mullins Fabrication is also prepping a rough molded body
for both paint and powder coating to be applied by “THE SHOP”.
Larry Williams of Williams Graphics, located in Joliet, IL, prepared
the final rendering and is also creating the artwork for a T-shirt
design.
Our goal is to raise funds for Susan G. Komen For The Cure, a three day
walk, held yearly to raise funds for breast cancer research and early
detection. Bunny will be participating in the walk as “Team Sunshine”,
which was organized in the name of Jr. Dragster racer, JC Gloyd, who
lost his mother to Breast Cancer. Members are welcome to participate
with us. Donations may be made in our name on the Susan G. Komen 3-Day
Walk website (www.komen.org). Funds must be raised in order to
participate in the walk. 100% of the proceeds will go to this cause.
The planned debut will be at Maryland International Raceway’s “Legends
of the Creek” event on June 25th-27th. We will also be appearing at
tracks and nostalgia events on the East Coast throughout the year.
Many thanks to THE SHOP, Bruce Mullins Fabrication, Williams Graphics,
Line-X of Frederick, Md. and all my hardworking BOYS for their
contributions to the “Burnout Breast Cancer” awareness campaign.
