[coverattach=1]As NHRA starts the second half of the 2009 Full Throttle tour it does so with one of the toughest series of race dates on the tour, the infamous ‘Western Swing.’ With back to back to back races in Denver, Seattle and Sonoma over the next three weeks, the race season resumes with a vengeance.
For Rodger Brogdon and the Charter Communications team the western it will be the first time that they’ve tackled the grueling three race swing together, and to that end you can feel both excitement and apprehension as the first race draws near. With the reality of the track record dipping into the six second zone for the first time, there is also much speculation in the Pro Stock ranks as to which car and driver will run that magic six second run. With the weather forecast for the weekend and the run order for the first session, the Charter Communications team knows they have as much of a shot as anyone at making the record setting run.
“At each race we continue to improve,” Rodger said, “and we’re looking forward to continuing that progress on the western swing. When we ran WJ in the first round at Norwalk and matched elapsed times with him to the thousandth of a second, it was disappointing to come up short, yet rewarding to match him with our on track performance. With the way we’ve been running and as close as we’ve been with our race day performance, it will be good to get back on track at Denver and see how well we can adjust to the thin air. With the talent this crew brings to the track, we just might be able to surprise a few folks this weekend.”
This edition of the Mile High nationals will be Brogdon’s first in Pro Stock, but the acclaimed driver has had success on ‘Thunder Mountain’ before in Comp Eliminator, making the late rounds more than once at Bandimere Speedway. As Rodger put it “Running on the mountain presents a once a year opportunity to rise to the occasion, and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the second half of the season than to run well this weekend. With what we’ve been bringing to the track of late, I’m sure we’ll do fine.”
