[coverattach=1](9-06-09)Farmington, NC - Fans of fast Pro Modified doorslammers enjoyed a diverse experience in Farmington's final round of eliminations on Saturday, September 4 at O'Reilly Farmington Dragway. Most anyone with an ounce of opinion had a horse to cheer for during this Quick-8 Racers Association event, where Ford met Chevy and nitrous squared off against blower - all in the same exciting final run of the night. In the end, a nitrous-assisted Ford Mustang driven by veteran wheelman, Dale Brinsfield, won the contest immediately by virtue of Kelly Martin's -.002 red light start. Martin, who qualified #1 for this event with a 3.96 elapsed time was behind the wheel of a blown 1963 Corvette.

Brinsfield took a single run in the opening round of eliminations when opponent Buzz Varner couldn't answer the call after hurting the motor in qualifying. Brinsfield, who qualified #2 with a 4.04, unloaded big power in round one, clocking 4.03 @ 181mph. In the semi-finals against Andy Beal, Brinsfield spun the tires hard off the line, immediately aborting the run. Beal was heading for certain victory when his blown Corvette took an unexpected move to the right, taking out the 330 cone. With Beal's center line infraction, Brinsfield advanced to the finals.

After jointly examining Farmington's concrete starting surface, Dale Brinsfield and Kelly Martin shook hands and then disappeared into the dark cockpits of their high-horsepower race cars. With burnouts executed to precision, the competitors calmly sit still with the pre-stage bulbs burning. The staging dual had potential, but was short lived as Brinsfield darted in to activate the second bulb after about 30 seconds. The tree fired yellow with Brinsfield catching the green. Martin was a fraction early, the red light frozen in place as he throttled to a 4.20 elapsed time. Brinsfield made a solid pass, clocking 4.05 @ 181mph to take the win. His latest victory at Farmington is one of two events Brinsfield has won in this series in 2009.

Brinsfield's drag racing affiliation with car owner, Jerry Williams, started out as friendly, yet serious competitors in 1990 as charter members of Don Plemmons' Quick-8 Racers Association. Williams competed in this league until a fire in 2002 ended his career as a driver. Returning in 2003 as a car owner, Williams named Brinsfield as the team driver; a partnership that's still going strong. "This is a first class operation with first class people and it's an honor to drive for Jerry and his sons," says Brinsfield, who will be back in the driver's seat this weekend at ADRL's Dragstock event at Rockingham Dragway.
