Federal bribery charges against the former operator of Spokane Raceway Park have been dismissed, although a former mayor he was accused of bribing pleaded guilty to taking a bribe.

The government's case against Orville L. Moe was dismantled in two steps Tuesday before a U.S. District Court jury could hear closing arguments.

I was born and raised in Spokane. Although I don't live there anymore, at this point I'm just concerned that Spokane Raceway Park survive. Personally, I've always thought it would be great if SRP became an IHRA track so that we could have some IHRA racing in the Pacific Northwest.

Echo what Rich said! I have heard from several folks whom said that our Division 6 director really wants it to be NHRA & to have at least an Open or even a Divisional event.

Wonder if this at all effects the NON-relationship between him & the track!!! I truly hope not!!!

Thank a bunch Brent!!!

We're hoping that the track continues with the county running it but without the help of NHRA. At least now when we race there we head home with a check in the wallet and smiles on our face. NHRA wants to make it a back gate division race which is always a big money looser for us. As my crew chief said so well, "NHRA getting it would be the second worse thing that could happen." Of course the worst is the track closing completely.

It was to bad that Orville was so greedy that he would end up loosing the track in the end. Had he paid the dividends none of this would have happend. I am glad that he is not guilty as charged.

update on Moe:

Spokane judge levies $315,000 sanction on former raceway operator

A Spokane County Superior Court judge has sent a stern message to the deposed operator of Spokane Raceway Park — to the tune of $315,000.

Judge Robert Austin has levied a contempt-of-court sanction against Orville Moe, because Moe has defied court orders. Moe has been asked to turn over ownership documents and business records detailing financial interests of Washington Motorsports, the limited partnership that owns the race track in Airway Heights.

Austin's sanction came a week after he granted the property's receiver — Barry Davidson — permission to hire an auction company to sell the raceway at public auction before April 13.

Davidson has been operating the track since the middle of 2005. He sought the sanction against Moe.

I heard that things don't look to good right now. If the county gets it we have a chance of keeping part of it a dragstrip. If the Indians and their damn casino get it, it's all over. There was a rumor that Jimmy Tice and friends might build a new track outside of town but with all the lawsuits just to build a new store or even a church, I wouldn't hold my breath. It will be a sad day when one of my favorite tracks gets demolished.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
LOL
Orville is such a moron!!!

Still hoping it stays a track!!!

Thanks Brent!
:)

Love him or hate him his checks always cleared. In 2000 when we were putting our Top Fuel car together I called and talked Orville into booking us in even though we had never made a pass. We wound up Runner Up and ran there until 2007 when Tice ran the Nostalgia Funnies. Everything he promised me he did with one exception, he always said he was going to run a six race series which I figured would never happen anyway.
I had more fun running there than any other track I've been to. Big difference in atmosphere at Spokane!!

You are right about the atmosphere there!!! I had a lot of fun running my street car there several times.

I know some of the local "weekend warriors", not too serious-out mainly for fun, have had bad dealings with him.

My main hope is that somehow they can keep an operating track there! Washington does NOT need any more casinos!!!

This is a big loss for drag racing unless you know who comes in on a white horse, buys it and saves the day. The future of whether or not it stays a dragstrip depends on who buys it. I'll be greatful if it ever happends.

None of this would be happening is Orvill would have done the right the thing when asked to do so. The SOB being the money mizer that he is screwed himself the fans and the racers. I'm sure he had ample time to pay the people off after being threatened with court action but he had a hard head and pride and greed got the best of him. Now we likely won't have nothing.

Thats for sure! There is a casino around every corner around here. How many of those places is enough?
