BRANDON BERNSTEIN LOOKING TO MAKE THIRD CONSECUTIVE FINAL ROUND APPEARANCE AT GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

MADISON , Ill. – Brandon Bernstein comes to the O’Reilly Midwest Nationals with the NHRA Top Fuel point lead following two consecutive NHRA national event victories.

Bernstein, who celebrated an emotional victory in Las Vegas April 15, followed that with another win at Atlanta Dragway April 29.

“Tim (Richards, crew chief) has had our car running consistently these past two weekends of racing,” said Bernstein. “Consistency goes rounds and with the new countdown to the championship format it’s imperative to go rounds to win one of the top spots in the countdown to eight.”

Bernstein has driven his Budweiser/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster to the final round of the

O’Reilly Midwest Nationals two of the three years in which he has competed at Gateway International Raceway.

“In St. Louis we always want to have a good showing for our friends at Budweiser. We were fortunate to win in 2005 and we finished runner-up last year.

“This season the St. Louis race is earlier in the season and we expect temperatures to be much cooler. This will be enjoyable for the fans and our race cars tend to perform quicker and faster in cooler conditions.”

Bernstein lost one of his best friends, Funny Car driver Eric Medlen, on March 23 from injuries suffered in a testing accident four days earlier in Gainesville , Fla. Bernstein dedicated his Las Vegas victory to Medlen. During victory circle ceremonies, Bernstein, flanked by his father Kenny and his entire Budweiser/Lucas Oil team, took a personal moment to present his trophy to Medlen’s mom, Mimi.

“J.R. Todd (Top Fuel driver), Eric and I were always together,” said Bernstein. “J.R. and I continue to compete with a photo of the three of us in our cockpits. It just seems as if Eric is riding with us.”

Nitro (Top Fuel and Funny Car) qualifying for the O’Reilly Midwest Nationals begins Friday, May 4 at 5 p.m. with a second round at 7:30 p.m. There are two qualifying rounds Saturday, 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. , with final eliminations beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Bernstein will sign autographs and greet fans at the Anheuser-Busch Tour Center Friday, May 5 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. CT. He will then turn his talent to celebrity bartending from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Tour Center for fans 21 and over. Visitors to the facility, located at 12th and Lynch Streets in St. Louis , can also enjoy a complimentary Anheuser-Busch brewery tour. A complete tour includes a visit to the historic Brew House, a look at the high-speed packaging lines and a walk through the cool lager cellar. After the tour, guests who are 21 years of age or older may try samples of Anheuser-Busch products.
