Bradford Nipped in Round 1

Tom Bradford played his 14th qualifier hand as well as can be expected, losing to Karen Stoffer in round 1 of Pro Stock Motorcycle competition at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. Stoffer's bike has been at or near the top of the qualifying order every pass at Indianapolis, and the order followed suit at the expense of Bradford.

eliminations round 1
(W) Karen Stoffer .044 7.079 at 186.59 mph .020 mov
Tom Bradford .037 7.110 at 186.85 mph

"It was a great race," said Bradford. "I peeked over there at top gear and she had a great top end charge. It was a closer race than it was against Andrew Hines in the Ringers Pro Bike Battle. Unfortunately, I've had two opportunities to move ahead of Karen in the points and it hasn't happened."

"We shook the tire pretty bad," said crew chief Rob Schopf. "We sucked this week—bottom line. We just didn't find the tune-up."

"We've got 11 hits in two weeks between .09 and .14," said Bradford. "We tried clutch, tuning, two different engines—everything. That's all it's got.

"I guess you could say I'm optimistically dejected. The synopsis of the whole weekend is we don't feel like the bike ever went down the track to it's potential. We're suspicious of a lot of things, but all we can do is go back and take a look at everything. We'll tear back into it and see what we can find, and see if we can get her back to that sweet 18 (the S&S motor's serial number) that she was."
