You should see what they did for camouflaging the Manhattan Project sites.
I've read about them in Richard Rhode's book "The Making of the Atomic
Bomb" but I've been trying to find online references with little luck. My google
ninja skills have deteriorated.

As for reading about that, I would recommend "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes:

it's a thick read. There are other atomic bomb histories some of which I have read but I've forgotten
the names of them. There is also a history of thermonuclear weapons by the same author.
