Shoot, I stopped buying gas when it hit $3.00 a gallon...
I borrow my neighbors gas via a garden hose and a 5 gallon can... :D I have 105 condos locked up behind the gates I live in, and 90% of them are 75 years of age anyhow... It's not like they can run and catch me... Atleast without breaking a hip... :D WHAT?? I got a dually that drinks gas like I do coca-cola... Plus they are rich, and I have a TAD to support... :) Very cool pics BTW alan, I actually remember those days... Thanks

Cool stuff, Alan. Glad that Shell building didn't catch on! And that Texaco plane!

A lot of times when I'm driving I can make out what were obviously the roads that were the major highways of the past. Sitting up higher in the cab makes them easier to see. Sometimes they're still actual roads, sometimes cows are standing on them in someone's field. Sometimes the highway I'm driving on is built on top of the even older road that was there before the one I'm looking at to the side. I never get tired of learning about how people used to live, even if it's unimportant things like a building here or a road there.

Thanks Alan, Thats cool!! Remember when they used to check your oil and wash the windows and check the air in your tires?? Had the change counters on the belt and the truckers wallet full of bills, and had the old stab in oil spouts?? Man those were the days. We are getting old!!! LOL

Cool site. I remember the glass quart jars, with the metal funnel spouts, filled with cheap recycled oil. 5¢ a quart. Damn, I'm old.
Crazy

Great stuff! We have an old abandoned Whiting Bros. Gas station about 50 Miles West of here on Old Rt. 66. The station I'm told has been closed since like '75, but the building and Sign remain all weeded up!

Thanks for the link, Alan. My aunt in Florida, had a restaurant/gas station in Bunnell, Florida. She was my Dad's sister and we used to go there on vacation every year. A couple of those photos remind me of Aunt Mil's place, portico and all. She made the best fried chicken I've ever tasted.

The Drug Store in Bunnell had a soda fountain too. I'm really thankful I got ot experience these things when life in America was more simple.

Thanks for the memories Alan! ;)

Don't you sometimes wish we go back to the days before self service stations and mega stores.

I've still GOT one of those old change counters! Please tell me I'm not the only one on this one. When I was a little kid and saw someone working such a magical device for the first time, I thought they must be awfully important! I can't remember how many times I'd see someone doing a particular job for the first time and I'd be like "Woah!" Even if it was at a ballgame. "Hey! He GETS to carry a tray and hand out hot dogs and sodas! How'd he get to do that? He must know someone!" :D
