Sam Fenech's chutes failed to blossom after a 5.66/255mph run in the final round of the Sydney event last night. It was his first event win but then it all went wrong.
Scary moment to see and says volumes about the safety of the car (Bickel-built).

Thank God he survived and with no injuries. What a testament to Jerry Bickle and crew at Jerry Bickle Race Cars. I would like to see drivers area of chassis it did its job for sure.

That was a wild ride. The gravel didn’t slow the car much.
I’m just glad the driver is OK.

He appeared to be on the throttle way past the finish line. Based on the 1,000' block to finish line which is 320 feet difference for reference it looks like he's at least 200 feet past the finish line and still on the throttle. I wonder if the throttle stuck. Then to make matters worse his chutes failed.
