Big Cackles the King Rat (10 Viewers)

don and shirley still drag their souvenir trailers to select nhra events. i'm not sure what the money arrangement is for them to be there.
at their age they shouldn't have to do that anymore, but life goes.
i'm assuming this was at one of the ihra nitro events from this last summer? nitro cackles at nat. events are cool. so is this one. by a legend no less.

A story, not exactly quick.

I was in Kissimee with my son and my Ex at her time share(Orange Lake). She had a January week that coincidentally was the Mecum Auction. That was cool. We would go to Fun City to see the car cruises.

Anyway, Had to leave at 10:00 am on a Sat. Our flight wasn't til til later in the day. I think we left earlier than that though. We headed to Don's Museum. We walked it for about 1.5 hours. After seeing my son and mother getting disinterested I thought it would be best to go.

On our way out though, we saw someone stepping over the ropes and taking a helmet off a mannequin, which I thought was odd.
Turns out, it was Don's daughter. Don was making test runs in the electric dragster. He had all his safety equipment except a helmet.

She was extremely nice and invited us to follow to meet Don and spectate. I would have jumped on the offer but it was another hour north from our flight from Orlando. I would have been putting it close to making our flight.

Don was testing at a private air strip. Rich people own houses with hangars so they can fly out of their backyard. John Travolta is one of the residents. I think he has a few planes. I think just soaking that in would have been cool. I've only owned balsa wood planes with rubber bands.

If it was just me and my son, we would have went! Would have been cool to see Don making passes.

After declining the offer and making our original flight, we could have done it it by the skin of our teeth! Argggg!

For the record, love my son. Not exactly fond of the ex 😉

now THAT would have been cool, to see don garlits testing an electric dragster on a private, residential paved fly-in/out runway.
you're right, that would have been a little bit of a drive north from don's museum, only to turn around and drive south to catch
a flight @ MCO.

You're assuming correctly Mike, but Don & Shirl have been to some IHRA gigs too - I think NHRA may have been buying their plane tickets to come, and if Darryl is doing the same without expecting something in return, I guess we'll be seeing more of them with a green background!!
I love seeing Shirley and (other legends), she's about the fans too - so it'll be all interesting things to see unfold...unless of course AR pops in with more knowledge to share!

WHAT DID YOU SAY?. That was my comment to the racers that had a complaint about something on the starting line, thanks to the late GREAT John Mulligan when he asked me to tighten his seat belts, the motor loaded up and cleaning it out I lost 70% hearing on my right ear. It did help though when my late wife was still alive.😅
