This may be my most favorite idea since talking about having 2 day events instead of 3 days. Two thumbs up!How about fixing the Four Wides so the top THREE finishers come back each time? That way it's still like regular racing where one goes on the trailer, the day gets longer and the attrition is slower. The winner has had to fight harder to get his win.
Four go up, three win like a horse race ... win ,place and show
Then after 4 quads, the sixteen are reduced to twelve, next set of quads reduce them to eight.
Then they run those 2 quads to reduce to the finals, with the four best left for the trophy
Start early, choose a track with no curfew and screw live TV time....everybody who doesn't have NHRA streaming is DVRing it anyway...... make it a grueling marathon
I hope none of the crew chiefs learn of my whereabouts........
Don't take this personal, but If you like 1/8th mile Pro Mod racing, good for you. But to me, it's over before it starts. What's next, 330 feet? Maybe have a drag race for whoever has the quickest reaction time and the race is over in 5 feet.1/8th mile pro mods are awesome
1/8th mile drag racing has been around for years with no plans on shortening it. Like or not, that's where a lot of the money, buzz, and excitement has gone to. Whether pro mod, grudge, npk, or bracket racing. A series has already tried 1,000 ft pro mods. Didn't take off. Tho honestly, the people promoting it didn't and still doesn't have the best reputations.Don't take this personal, but If you like 1/8th mile Pro Mod racing, good for you. I love Pro Mods, maybe a little more than Funny Cars, and I understand the cars are getting faster and some tracks have a short shut down area but it's just not for me. 1,000 feet like Top Fuel and Funny Cars would be better.
Back to the 4 wide discussion, never been to one and don't intend to go one.
I know 1/8 mile drag dracing has been around for a while and I've been to a couple. I think the 1/8 mile race came about due to the Street Outlaws show because it was probably hard to find a 1/4 mile stretch of highway to race on and the idea carried over to the drag strip because that was what the spectators related to. Just my 4 cents (inflation) worth.1/8th mile drag racing has been around for years with no plans on shortening it. Like or not, that's where a lot of the money, buzz, and excitement has gone to. The racing in the PDRA and World Series of Pro Mod the last few years has been brutal! Especially the last year! Some of the best racing I've watched in years. Give it another try. I think you'll come away with a smile on your face and telling anyone that will listen to check it out.I know 1/8 mile drag dracing has been around for a while and I've been to a couple. I won't ask who the promoters were, but what did they do to get a bad reputation?
Oh, the idea of a 330 or reaction time race was just my sarcastic joke.
Understood. No hard feelings man. And the guys, well guy I'm speaking is now the President of the IHRA. The reputation that he gained is not being able to pay people their money. I would drop his name but idk if that's frowned upon on here.I know 1/8 mile drag dracing has been around for a while and I've been to a couple. You don't see an NFL game with one of the goal posts moved up to the 50 yard line, either. It would look silly on a 100 yard field, the same as 660' racing looks silly (to some) at a 1320' track because the visual effect is that the race is over way too soon. But if the track is 660' to begin with, which the majority of local tracks are, then it becomes much more enjoyable and intense to both watch or compete.Yeah, well... it all seems to be a gimmick now anyway.
You don't see the NFL putting four teams on the field at the same time, do ya?
1/8 mile drag racing was around long before him. It has been around for decades.Understood. No hard feelings man. And the guys, well guy I'm speaking is now the President of the IHRA. Been preaching car sound issues since the 1980's when I was privileged to hang out with Dean Papadeaus, and saw first hand how totally awesome Drag Racing on TV could be. And that was with 1980's technology. You don't see an NFL game with one of the goal posts moved up to the 50 yard line, either. I'll watch Carolina's 4 wide; I'm not so uppity as to boycott an entire race because of a non-preferred format. I only have Fox Local and Fox Sports to watch the races on, and if there's anything that can be done to improve the home viewers' experience it's the audio portion. There's rank ass amateurs out there that put up YT videos by the thousands where the audio, especially when the fuel cars run, actually mimics the sound you'll hear at the actual race. You can't tell me that Fox, who has access to the best audio'/visual equipment available, can't improve what sounds like attending a race wearing the same headphones you'd wear at a shooting range. And how about some more in-car? They used to show quite a bit of that from several different camera angles but lately not so much.
Wondering why they avoid a known issue,id be fine with the option with announcer or no announcer but with graphics,id love it. Sadly NHRA ignores this issue, gives bad out of sync sound on Fox and refuses to allow car sound on NHRA.TV
They will not answer mail about this issue, you will be ignored.
Drag Racing on TV in 2025 with today's technology should be a mind melting xperience, instead it is a joke and an and insult to the sport
You don't see the NFL (or MLB or NHL, etc) utilizing the Countdown either.Yeah, well... it all seems to be a gimmick now anyway.

Barnum and Bailey are proud
