[coverattach=1]COMMERCE, Ga. (April 19) – At the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals the Budweiser/Lucas Oil team nabbed the No. 2 qualifying spot (3.824/311.49) for the second time in three races displaying a strong, consistent performance.
In the opening round of eliminations at Georgia ’s house of speed, Brandon Bernstein, who won the event here in 2007, squared off against Bobby Lagana, Jr. Bernstein had the edge out of the gate and was on a nice run, pulling away, until his dragster began to haze the tires down track. Though Bernstein was on and off the throttle, the fractions of a second lost while he tried to regain traction allowed Lagana, Jr. to obtain the round win.
“No matter how strong we had been running all weekend in qualifying, one little stumble today and that’s all it took,” said a disappointed Bernstein. “We had a great car these past two days, and we were looking good until about the 660-foot mark today. Our entire team is really focused and digging deep.
“We’re right in the hunt. We’ll look forward to St. Louis in two weeks.”
Bernstein who has scored two runner-up and two final four finishes this season, continues to hold third place in NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings.
