BECKMAN TO GUEST ON SPEED CHANNEL'S WIND TUNNEL SUNDAY
NORTH HILLS, Calif. (Aug. 1, 2007) - "Fast" Jack Beckman, who most recently drove the Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T to two back-to-back victories in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Western Swing in his first full season in the Funny Car class, will guest live on Speed Channel's "Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain" on Sunday, Aug. 5.
Beckman, 41, joined Don Schumacher Racing for the last five events of the 2006 NHRA season as a Funny Car rookie, and stunned the world by qualifying No. 1 once, setting both the elapsed-time and top speed national records, and winning once in two final-round appearances.
After struggling in the beginning of the 2007 season, the former Air Force sergeant, cancer survivor and instructor at Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School in Pomona, Calif., came on strong mid-way, scoring wins in Denver and Seattle. He went from 10th to fifth in points in just five events to earn a spot in the top eight towards the new Countdown to the Championship. The next two events, in Brainerd, Minn., and Reading, Pa., will determine whether he will clinch a spot in the top eight before the Countdown kicks in at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend.
Wind Tunnel airs on Speed Channel 9-10 p.m. ET. Fans may call in or email their questions for Beckman at 1-866-WTUNNEL or [email protected].
