BECKMAN GRABS NO. 3 IN SEATTLE QUALIFYING

KENT, Wash. (July 21, 2007) - Jack Beckman, last week's Funny Car winner in Denver, powered the Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T to No. 3 in qualifying for the Schuck's Auto Supply NHRA Nationals, in only one qualifying session held because of rain.

In today's single round, Beckman recorded a solid 4.866-second run at 305.56 mph and will face Jim Head in the opening round of eliminations on race day. The field was established with the top 10 qualifiers set, followed by the bottom six based on point standings and performance during the one session.

"I don't think anybody likes only having one run," said Beckman, "not just for the fact that we just came off of racing a mile high in Denver and we're going to a sea-level track with totally different conditions. Also, everybody's only got one run and they haven't been able to check out both lanes. But, we will have lane choice, which will work to our favor, I hope.

"It's funny. When people ask if having only one qualifying run is an advantage or a disadvantage, I say it's a wash because it's the same for everybody. The only potential issue is if there's a good lane and a bad lane, and you've only got to run one lane. But, No. 2 and 3 qualifiers were in the right lane, No. 1 was in the left lane, so it looks like they're both good lanes for us.

"I want to go race my car and win some rounds on final eliminations day, whichever day it is," said Beckman, alluding to the reported rainy conditions predicted for Sunday.
