POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2007) – David Baca drove his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to a first-round effort Sunday at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona to conclude the 2007 NHRA season for the Matco Tools team.
The veteran driver qualified the Matco-backed rail in the No. 3 position with a run of 4.523 seconds on Thursday afternoon at the historic Pomona strip. He used a solid Lee Beard tune-up to drive the Matco Tools dragster to a run of 4.574 seconds at 327.19, but as a result of a better starting line reaction time, Doug Herbert earned the win with a run of 4.624 at 296.05.
“I’m very pleased with David Baca,” Beard said. “The car ran consistent mid to low 4.50s run after run with David in the car. Doug Herbert had a great light and David had an average light. We had a lot of fun at these two races with David in the car. He’s a great guy and has a great family. If we ever expanded to a third car, he’d be high on the list of people to drive the car.”
The 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series begins, Feb. 7-10, 2008, at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona .
