PINE RIVER, ONTARIO (May 1, 2009) – The Grubb Racing Team can’t wait to get their 2004 Chevy Cavalier on the track for the first race of the new Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

“We’re pretty pumped,” said team crew chief Mike Dennis. “We’re really looking forward to racing in this new series.”

Based in the small town of Pine River, Ontario, just south of Kincardine, the Cavalier of brothers Marvin and Darrin Grubb has won numerous awards with Darrin at the wheel, including several runner-up spots in Grand Bend’s Top Sportsman division. The team has also won the IHRA Division Three Pro Am Best Engineered Car award.

The team has competed with the Cavalier for four years now, and although Dennis said they are comfortable with the car, new items this year will present a bit of a challenge.

“We keep adding new stuff,” he mentioned. “You can never go fast enough.”

A new tunnel ram has been added to the 632-cubic inch Chevy engine this year for more power.

The alcohol-fed engine is from Par Engines in South Carolina. With the new engine parts, Dennis is hoping for times in the 7.40-second range as opposed to last year’s 7.59 passes.

The engine sits in a Chris Duncan Race cars product, and was the first pro car from the shops of the noted Midwestern builder south of Chicago. The car was originally built as a Top Sportsman car. A Rupert fuel system sits on top of the big Chevy, and a Hutch Powerglide takes the power from the engine to the rear wheels.

The Grubbs have been racing for about 10 years, and Dennis, a former racer himself, has about 20 years in the sport. He added he did race at one time, but now helps solely on the Grubb Cavalier.

The three maintain and race the car with no additional manpower. Sponsors include Marvin’s Automotive Service, Pennzoil, Hutch Transmission, Ideal Supply, Chris Duncan Race Cars, and Par Racing Engines.

Dennis added he is pleased with the car, and how the team has adapted to the car, a big step up from the former Super Pro Nova they once had.

“This Cavalier has been a good car,” he noted. “And Darrin has been doing very well in adjusting and learning to the car.”

Dennis also mentioned the new series is ideal for exploring the team’s potential and offers a chance to expand that potential.

“This new Quick 32 series is the perfect upgrade for us,” he continued. “It is an excellent incentive for us to do better.”

Race one of the six-event 2009 Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Tour gets underway May 16 and 17 at Cayuga Dragway.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, will compete six times, several times with the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), Pro Modified Racing Association, as well as selected special events, offering fans a great show of drag racing.

For 2009, dates include Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, starting with the season opener on May 16 and 17 and the season-closer on September 19 and 20, at St. Thomas Dragway on July 11 and 12, and the South-western Ontario track of the Grand Bend Motorplex on June 27 and 28, August 8 and 9 and September 5 and 6.
