Autorama & World of Wheels Announce New Drag City USA attraction (1 Viewer)

[coverattach=1]Auburn Hills, MI, October 23, 2009 – Over the last few years, one of the segments of the motorsports community experiencing a dramatic rise in popularity has been nostalgia drag racing. Every summer weekend at tracks across the country, fans have been flocking to events where meticulously restored vintage race cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s as well as faithfully executed reproductions compete both in static displays and on the race track, offering a highly sensory glimpse into the history of the sport.

Recognizing this growing trend, Championship Auto Shows, Inc. (CASI) today announced an expansion to its highly popular Autorama and World of Wheels car shows with an attraction dedicated to the nostalgia drag racing community. Appropriately named “Drag City USA”, it will feature some of drag racing’s most iconic vehicles, with some of the sport’s founding stars on hand to meet the fans and sign autographs. Drag City USA is currently scheduled to be a part of nine events in the Summit Racing Equipment Show Car Series, making its debut on January 8-10 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

At each event, the Drag City USA exhibit will be populated with a mix of five historic cars on loan from the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum in Ocala, FL as well as examples from the local community. In addition to three of “Big Daddy’s” legendary Swamp Rat dragsters from the early to mid ‘60s, the display will also include one of Don “The Snake” Prudhomme’s favorite rides, the 1970 Wynn’s Winder dragster, as well as the 1967 Bounty Hunter dragster driven by fellow Hall of Famer Connie Kalitta. With a host of additional entries comprised of historically significant vehicles and stunning reproductions anticipated to take part in their home markets, every stop promises to offer fans a unique and entertaining look at the early days on the quarter-mile.

Headquartered in Auburn Hills, MI, Championship Auto Shows Inc. (CASI) is the largest producer of Autorama, World of Wheels and Cavalcade of Customs custom car shows.
