Atchison looking forward to Tulsa and Sooner Nationals

London, Ontario, May 21, 2007 3 time IHRA Funny Car Champion Rob Atchison heads to the Sooner Nationals with the Erickson Tie Downs and Tow Straps Monte Carlo sitting third in Knoll Gas Nitro Jam Points. “We look forward to racing in Oklahoma and the Sooner Nationals”, states Atchison. We have been working on our program and we think we are on the right track to start running more consistent and faster. We managed to get some testing in at Grand Bend Motorplex and the track surface was perfectly prepared and we got to make 6 hits. Racing at a new venue is always exciting and we here the fans in Oklahoma are just like our Canadian Fans who love their drag racing. I know they will get the best show they have ever had in all the classes.

The Erickson Tie Downs and Tow Straps team are heading directly to Tulsa following this past weekends NHRA Division 3 race at Summit Raceway Park. “ We took our IHRA setup there to test it and to race and to see how we stacked up to the competition,” stated Atchison. We managed to qualify seventh of the 18 cars on the property but we lost in round one to # 2 qualifier Marty Nothstein. Frank Manzo won the event and obliterated our track record with a 5.540 @ 260.61 mph. went on to victory. Former IHRA Funny Car racer Chris Foster was involved in a top end crash which destroyed his Funny Car but the good news was he was “Ok” just a little sore.

The Erickson Team will be at Tulsa without their fellow Canadian friends from the Bear’s Performance Pro stock Team. The Bears team has suspended racing because of crew chief Wayne O’Brien’s rehab from cancer surgery. “They decided to stay home and support Wayne”, stated Atchison. Knowing that team it probably was an easy decision to make because they are a very close-knit bunch of guys who work hard as a team. They race the only Mopar in Pro Stock and like us with our AJ motor program you have to go it alone. Our whole team will be thinking of Wayne and the Bear’s Team at every race. Those wishing to send well wishes to Wayne can do so by sending it to [email protected]

Atchison Racing is pleased to announce the addition of Flyin’s Truck Wash as associate sponsor joining associate sponsor Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts for the Rocky Mountain Nationals. “Bumper to Bumper helped us out last year and they are a great people who are dedicated to serving Western Canada and they are also a customer of our primary sponsor Erickson Tie Downs and Tow Straps”, states Atchison. We are very proud represent and to be associated with Ryan Bell and his staff at Flyin’s Truck Wash. We have always washed our rig at Flyin’s Truck Wash before the Rocky Mountain Nationals. Ryan and his staff have extended a discount to all IHRA racers attending the Rocky Mountain Nationals who want to clean up their rigs before the event. I will have maps and flyers with the discount coupon at the Sooner Nationals.
