DINWIDDIE, Va. - The Motel 6 "Who Got the Light Award" is one that is mostly captured by the Pro Stock fraternity due to the close nature of their races. During the Torco Race Fuels NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, NHRA POWERade Funny Car driver Mike Ashley proved that the 8,000-horse nitro burners had the capability of staging a very close race - a .0052 margin of victory to be exact.
That was the minuscule amount of time that Ashley pushed the Knoll Gas - Torco Race Fuels Dodge Charger past Tony Pedregon in the first round of eliminations. Ashley is rewarded $1,000 for pulling off the feat.
"NHRA POWERade Funny Car racing is very competitive and can provide some nail-biting racing," Ashley said. "I am thankful for my team for putting me in the position to win such an award. I am equally grateful that Motel 6 has provided us with a great incentive program."
Ashley went on to finish the weekend as a quarter- finalist.
