Ashley has Unfortunate Weekend in Englishtown

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - For the third year in a row, Mike Ashley, driver of the Torco Race Fuels Dodge Charger, failed to make eliminations at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey - the place he started his racing career and calls his 'hometown track.'

"It's quite a difficult pill to swallow. This track has been really difficult for me in the past few years, and it got me this year, too," Ashley said.

Both qualifying attempts Saturday in the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals ended without Ashley improving on sub-par results from Friday. Team Gotham ended up No. 20 in the 20-car field.

"I told my guys, you're not winners for winning, and you're not losers for losing. We're still winners, we're warriors, and we're just going to go into warrior mode now. We're still very much in the championship points, and we're not going to let this get us down," he said.

Hoping to start the first race of a six-race marathon with more positive results, Ashley summed up his performance in one word: "unfortunate."

"I would be upset if everybody on the team wasn't disappointed. We deserve to be disappointed, but we will not be dissuaded. This does not mean by any means that we're going to give up.

"We're going to take a look at what we've been doing incorrectly the last couple of races and put it back together and go on to Norwalk and hold our heads high and do what we have to do to return to championship contention.

"At the end of the day, it's disappointing, but it's not catastrophic. There's a difference between the two, and we'll move on from here," he said.

Ashley and the Torco Race Fuels Dodge Charger are in action next weekend in Norwalk, Ohio at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals June 28-July 1.
