HK port to stop all operations by 1pm today

2008-09-23 10:21:00

HONG KONG, Sep 23 (GCTL) –

Hong Kong port said today it will stop all operations at the container
terminals, mid-stream and river trade activities by 1pm.

At 10 a.m., Typhoon Hagupit was estimated to be about 380 kilometres
southeast of Hong Kong (near 20.2 degrees north 117.0 degrees east) and is
forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour
edging closer to the south China coast. No. 3 strong wind signal was hoisted
at about 10.30am.

According to Hagupits' present track, the Observatory will consider the
need for the No.8 Gale or Storm Signal around dusk today.

As far as Hong Kong International Airport is concerned, there have been no
announcements of any flight postponements or cancellations yet.
