(Sydney, NSW) The upcoming Snap-on Nitro Champs on May 2-3 at Western Sydney Dragway is set to live up to its name, with an imposing entry list of the most explosive motor vehicles on planet earth - Top Fuel Dragsters!
Already this season, Sydney has regularly enjoyed double-digit entry lists in the Nitro rocketships and the field is set to grow even further for the May stanza with the return of Victorian and former Top Fuel Champion Darren Di Filippo to active combat.
According to fellow Victorian racer Phil Lamattina, the growth of the bracket has the Wemen based driver as excited as he has ever been about the Sport and the prospects for the Nitro Champs event in May!
"It's unbelievable the level of competition in ANDRA Top Fuel right now," remarked Lamattina, "and with the way next season is looking as well with even more cars stepping into the category, it paints an awesome future in this country for us."
Some pundits had jibed that the 4.5 second, at 500kmh for the quarter mile running Monsters were possibly only ever going to be an exhibition bracket in Australia. Not to be it seems!
Those scourners must be inhaling a bit of nitro in their nostrils and enduring tears in their eyes right now as ANDRA Top Fuel is exploding into never before seen levels of competition and performance which will continue in Sydney at the Snap-on Nitro Champs.
"Top Fuel is no easy game anymore, we kicked heads in Perth, only to have our tail between our legs in Sydney at the Summernationals. This break in racing has left me twitchy and keen to get racing again," Lamattina revealed.
"Some people say we as a team aren't as competitive as we should be and get up ourselves when we lose, but I can tell you I am still chewing up deep inside my guts at our efforts in Sydney. We want to get back up there in May and really produce the goods.
Top Fuel is actually a team sport, because its not just driver, its at least a dozen people who feel the pain or glory on what happens out there on the racetrack.
The level of competition in Top Fuel right now is fantastic and is only going to get better. Anything can and will happen at WSID in May."
