Anyone notice the run he laid down?

D.J. Cox

1 -- .113 .923 2.424 3.589 4.577 5.411 5.411 270.10

.113 light and then to run a 5.41 at over 270 mph

Now that's hauling the mail !!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Jim Hill

What does the light (.113) have to do with it Jim. While not a great light by any means the run looked amazing. The RT has no bearing on the run unless the diaper or something low affected the RT. a .113 with a .92 60ft is all good

But you can't afford to slap the wall in the semi's.
Amazing how out of control that car got, after he was off the gas. Incredible wheelspeed and it looked as though he was steering & braking properly....reminded me of Gasparelli's (sp?) flip a few years back...

Not to armchair quarterback, although I've been there.... DJ should have recognized that his competition was well ahead of him and he should have used the entire track from wall to wall instead of trying his darnedest to keep it in his lane in order to save it. That was one of the first things I told all 9 of the guys who I licensed in my car, including John Lombardo. DJ did a heck of a job, though. It could have been a lot worse. When it knocks the tires off that early your nose hits the steering wheel, the back of the car comes up and the immediate reaction (all at once ) should be to get off the throttle.

Here's a video of Daniel Oliver in my car in only his second run down the track in eliminations against Steve Harker back in 2008. He definitely used up the whole track, and it was dumb luck that kept him from hitting Harker.

That was some serious tire shake before the left turn Randy.

I told him that if it shakes just shut it off. At that time he didn't have enough runs to stay with it. Instead, his dad told him don't pay attention to Randy, just shift it into second. And that's what happened when he did. Since his dad never drove one of these things Daniel decided it was best to listen to someone who has after that happened.

That is interesting. Back in the late 70s the shift to second during shake was common (especially in a AADA). Back then it seemed the alky dragsters shook more often, but the alky FCs shook harder.

Problem with a TA/FC is you don't know what tire it's on when you shift it in tire shake. Most of the time you might get away with it, but not this time.

Very true. Luckily the last year we raced a TAFC (1981 for Tom Finlay) we didn't have a lot of shake issues. His TAD had them more often (some of that was self inflicted by the owner messing with Tim Richard's tune up).
