O’FALLON, MO (Jan. 15, 2008) — The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard today announced it has finalized a 10-year agreement to keep Dragstock, it’s oldest and most prestigious event, at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina.
“I think it’s important to send a message to our fans and the people and businesses of Richmond County that we appreciate their support and want to be a big part of their future,” ADRL President Kenny Nowling said. “This decade-long commitment is unprecedented in drag racing and reflects the confidence we have in Rockingham Dragway’s top-notch facilities and management.”
Ranking with the Indy 500 for the open-wheeled set and the Daytona 500 for the stock car crowd, Dragstock has quickly established itself with ADRL competitors as the one they all want to win at least once in a career. Last year the event also produced the quickest and fastest eighth-mile pass ever by a full-bodied car when Mississippi’s Jason Scruggs covered the Rockingham strip in 3.70 seconds at more than 205 miles per hour in his supercharged Pro Extreme Corvette.
Dragstock III in 2006 shattered all attendance records at the 38-year-old speed factory and Dragstock IV continued that trend last year.
“Dragstock has drawn our largest one-day race event crowds ever and produced our biggest day in concessions,” said track owner Steve Earwood. “The ADRL format presents some of the most exciting competition in all of drag racing. Not only offering the best bargain for our fans, it also offers the best entertainment. We are most appreciative to Kenny Nowling and the ADRL for signing this unprecedented 10-year commitment to Rockingham Dragway”.
This year’s Hushpower Dragstock V, scheduled for Sep. 12-13, marks the ADRL’s fifth anniversary and “a huge celebration is in the planning stages,” Nowling said. “Even if you’ve been to one of our races before, Dragstock V is going to blow you away.”
