Tim Wilkerson needed to at least match Jack Beckman's round record at this 60th Anniversary U.S. Nationals, in order to hold on to his 10th spot in the points and the final playoff spot. He never imagined doing so by losing. Beckman, who was the No. 2 qualifier in this enormously stout Funny Car field, lost to Blake Alexander in round one. Wilk then smoked the tires and lost to Tommy Johnson....
