A FINALIST AT LAST RACE, MONSTER ENERGY/LUCAS OIL TEAM HAS A ROUGH GO AT BRISTOL

BRISTOL, Tenn. (July 7) – One week after a celebratory runner-up finish at Norwalk, Ohio, Kenny Bernstein and the Monster Energy/Lucas Oil Funny Car team were disappointed to narrowly miss the top 16 for the O’Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals.

“The storm of emotions begins on Friday night if you don’t make a pretty sensational run,” said Bernstein. “We were so close all weekend long. We were eighth in the qualifying order after the first run, but in the end we were nine thousandths of a second short. We have proven we have the capability to perform well, and on the heels of last week’s finish, this is a burden we hoped not to have to shoulder again.”

For the first time in NHRA’s 50-plus year history, no Funny Car driver has qualified for every event this season, and the NHRA circuit is only at the midway point. That is a mind boggling statistic and is proof that the popular Funny Car field is extremely competitive.

“We won’t hide behind the statistics,” said Bernstein. “We are a first-class team. We will just dig deeper and stay focused.”

Bernstein is 15th in NHRA Funny Car standings, 112 points out of the countdown to eight.
