Friday, 31 August 2007 - (Sydney, NSW) Qualifying Day of the ACDelco East Coast Nationals Drag Racing action has been completed In front of a super crowd at Western Sydney International Dragway. The highlight of the day was John Zappia rocking WSID to its foundations once again at the ACDelco event, with a scorching 5.988 ET at 239 miles per hour!
Victor Bray has also served notice and this fellow Doorslammer legend cranked a super 6.010 and whilst Gary Phillips is still getting a handle on his awesome new Lucas Funny Car, he eked out a super strong 6.015 to secure third in Top Doorslammer, which saw the bump-spot of 6.227 seconds miss the record bump time by 1-1000th of a second!
It would be fair to say the bump would have been obliterated, however the final qualifying session for all professional categories was brutal to say the least with rapidly cooling track conditions.
In Top Fuel, the cool conditions made it challenging for the field to step up to the sticky track, with Steve Read being the only 4-second hit so far.
Ben Bray returned to Top Form in Top Alcohol, however saw Brett Stevens pinch the 8-spot from the younger Bray in the Doorslammer field with a last-pass gasp in the final session.
Steve Read tops the Skips Fire Service Top Fuel field with a tidy 4.70 blast.
Top Bike saw Flying Kiwi Athol Williams nail top peg, whilst reigning champ Jay Upton's nightmare start to the season continued with him not able to qualify the Honda machine into the field.
