Is history repeating its self. The rebirth of Funny Car! Sure hope it makes a clean pass.
Article From Drag Racing Online. Couldn't get the pictures to come through.
There hasn't been a nitro burning doorslammer/funny car like Don Wootton's since the mid sixties when racers such as Doug Thorley, Dale Armstrong, and a phalanx of Altered Wheelbase, had nitro-burning fuel injected cars like Texan Don Wootton's '69 Camaro shown here. The Agent has been eagerly awaiting the debut of one of these kinds of cars since hall-of-famer Funny Car racer Gene Snow starting talking about building one for ADRL competition some three years ago.
Car owner Wooton, Chassis builder Joe Monden and reknowned engine-builder/driver/tuner made drag racing history of sorts when they debuted their Jerry Bickel built Camaro powered by a 420inch, dual mag, fuel injected hemi and using a "direct drive" trans yesterday at Houston Raceway Park. They were testing the new combination preparing for the upcoming ADRL season opener next weekend at Houston Raceway Park. They managed a burnout and a stage yesterday but a reported ignition malfunction kept Wootoon from making a pass. Testing continues today. Oh how the Agent wishes he were there.
