Doug was ; and probably still is, a “learner”. As a kid, his Grandpa and Dad taught him superb welding skills. Among other things, his Uncle taught him how to fly an airplane and inspired him to make aviating his life passion. His cousin taught him a lot about working on nitro-fueled racing engines and how to drive a dragster. There’s also been a number of incredibly talented Crew Chiefs along the way, who I’m sure also taught Doug a lot. Doug is a worker. A maker-of-things-happening.
It’s interesting to look at the 80’s pit photos of Connie and Scott’s cars. All you see, is Doug Kalitta - working. Always working, always learning.
